Horsa is the only Italian system integrator involved in the European project Hi Connects

The consortium aims at realize sustainable and energy-efficient cloud and edge computing services to enable the development of highly automated driving

Companies

Horsa, a leading Italian system integrator, has delivered in September its first progress report on the project Hi Connects, which aims to develop the next generation of electronic components and systems, as well as the heterogeneous integration of core technology solutions in the automotive and smart mobility fields.

Funded by EU, the Heterogeneous Integration for Connectivity and Sustainability (Hi Connects) project aims to develop heterogeneous integration (HI) core technology solutions for high-performance, energy-efficient cloud computing and wireless/wired edge computing, as well as automotive radars to solve two of the major state-of-the-art problems on state-of-the-art roadblocks: Internet of Things (IoT) data transmission over the IT network and object detection to enable highly automated driving (HAD).

Work on the consortium, in which 64 entities from 15 different countries are involved, began on January 1, 2023, and will last 36 months. During this time, the partners involved are expected to develop the assigned task by working in heterogeneous, supranational teams.

Cesare Tarricone of Horsa

The working group at Horsa, the only Italian system integrator involved, includes partners such as ST Microelectronics (parent company), Active Technologies, Politecnico di Milano, Università di Catania and Politecnico di Torino, and is focused on optimizing process and equipment performance and demonstrating how upcoming technological advances will improve the efficiency of the semiconductor industry with the implementation of a new phase of Industry 4.0.

More specifically, Horsa was asked to make the usability of collected data efficient and provide simultaneous use of process data through the implication of different data streams, formats and types of data sources; specifically, Horsa's work focused on data cleaning, mapping and transformation.

For Horsa, the next phase of the project involves the integration of the proprietary Move platform, which has been successfully used for more than a decade in factory projects in the collection of incoming data from manufacturing processes with the goal of improving and decreasing response time in case of real time detected alarms/shocks.

"This project, the first one for us of European scope, gives us the opportunity to contribute to solving one of the main social and industrial challenges of our time, namely making object detection safer through technology and the development of new electronic components and systems to enable highly automated driving. As a demonstration of our utmost commitment to the project, we have also created the Digital Manufacturing division in-house with the goal of supporting manufacturing companies throughout the digital transformation journey”, said Cesare Tarricone, Division Manager at Horsa
